A Family Tradition Built Around Community

For more than seven decades, the Bass family has been connected to Louisville real estate—helping people find homes, investing in established neighborhoods, and restoring properties that are part of the city’s story.

From the earliest days of Bass & Weisberg Realtors to the residential and commercial properties managed by Bass Properties today, our history reflects a longstanding commitment to the place we call home.

Humble Beginnings, Lasting Roots

The family’s real estate story began in 1952, when Lewis “Sonny” Bass and his cousin Charles Weisberg founded Bass & Weisberg Realtors.

In an era when business was built through personal connections and a deep knowledge of local neighborhoods, they helped establish the foundation for a family tradition that has continued across generations.

Family history recalls Sonny taking the city bus to show homes to prospective buyers—a small detail that speaks to the dedication and resourcefulness of those early years.

The places we care for

Part of Louisville’s Neighborhoods

Our buildings are more than entries in a property portfolio. They are remodeled & updated homes, workplaces, and familiar landmarks on the streets that give Louisville its character.

From historic apartments in the Highlands to residences and commercial spaces in other established neighborhoods, the family’s investments reflect a continuing belief in Louisville and its future.

We value the architectural details, neighborhood connections, and everyday experiences that make each property unique.

Preserving Louisville’s History: The Air Devils Inn

One example of the Bass family's dedication to preserving Louisville's history is the acquisition of the historic property at 2802 Taylorsville Road, home to the Air Devils Inn.

The building's story began in 1876, when it was constructed as Maple Grove School, a one-room schoolhouse also known as Breckinridge School. Sometime between 1909 and 1915, a second room was added. The school continued serving students in the first three grades until 1927, when the property was sold.

In 1934, shortly after Prohibition ended, the building began a new chapter as the Air Devils Inn, one of Louisville's oldest inns. It began serving liquor that year, and its iconic “Air Devils Inn” neon sign is regarded as Louisville's oldest neon sign.

Striving for excellence, we have always remodeled and updated our homes with care, while respecting the character and stories that make them special. In 1984, Ned purchased the Air Devils Inn property, helping preserve this Louisville landmark and keep its history and cherished memories alive for generations to come.

“A family legacy is measured not only in years, but in the places cared for and the relationships built along the way.”
Looking ahead

Continuing the Family Tradition

Louisville has changed considerably since 1952, and so has the real estate industry. Through those changes, the Bass family’s connection to the community has remained an enduring part of its story.

Today, Bass Properties continues that tradition through responsible property ownership, ongoing improvements, and personal service to residents and businesses.

We are proud of the history behind us—and equally committed to the neighborhoods and people who will shape the years ahead.
